Emma Raducanu Credits Grandmother for Her Romanian Language Skills

Emma Raducanu has successfully registered a victory after her gallant efforts at US Open 2021. Though a challenging one, Raducanu won in her opening round at Transylvania Open. Moreover, Brit confessed that this victory means a lot to her as she’s concentrating on one point at a time. After US Open, she entered the Indian Wells but had to exit in the second round itself.

In the post-match conference, Raducanu revealed that she has never learned Romanian. Despite coming from a Romanian background, she doesn’t speak the language.

Emma Raducanu has never learned Romanian

Though born in Great Britain, Emma Raducanu has Romanian as well as Chinese origin. Her father was from Romania, while her mother was from China. After winning in the opening round of Transvlyvania Open, the 18-year-old opened up a bit on speaking Romanian.

She said, “I’ve never learned romanian, my grandma spoken to me in romanian and I picked up the vocabs in that way. I don’t speak that much it at home, just couple of phone calls a week to my grandma. Staying here in Cluj-Napoca I already feel like improving.”

The competition is happening in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Raducanu feels as she has Romanian origin, she playing much better at this place.

Raducanu is proud of the victory

Raducanu overcame Polona Hercog despite losing the first set at Transylvania Open. After receiving a setback in the first set, she created the momentum and subsequently triumphed over the remaining two sets.

In the post-match conference, the Brit stated, “I wasn’t playing very well, I just needed to keep going one point at the time. I’m proud of how I manage to win against an experienced opponent as Polona. This victory means a lot to me.

Throughout the match, Raducanu smashed four aces and won more breakpoints than the Slovenian. In the deciding set, she totally dominated as she pulled off it 6-1. She’ll face Ana Bogdan of Romania in her next round.
