With a big bright smile, 18-year-old Emma Raducanu came and conquered the US Open 2021 title. Before her, no player in tennis history had won a Grand Slam as a qualifier, but Raducanu did it without losing a set or her focus. Naturally, the world labeled it as a New York fairytale. But for the teenager, it was the only way she knew how to play the sport.

Interestingly, Raducanu opened up on how she copes up with pressure in big matches. While her theory is to go at it point by point, her calm mindset comes from her parents.

Emma Raducanu on coping with pressure

On her way to the US Open trophy, Raducanu outclassed many big names on the WTA Tour. And when many doubted her, she only rose to the challenge and proved them all wrong. However, the teenager was not so composed on the court from the beginning.

“When I was younger, I would get quite upset and emotional on the court, and I got that knocked out of me pretty quickly,” Raducanu told the Guardian.

Additionally, the US Open champion explained how her parents helped her keep her emotions at bay. “My parents didn’t like that, so from a young age, I’ve just had this mindset and stayed very calm,” Raducanu added.

Considering her three relentless weeks in New York, she seems destined for big things. And given her uncharacteristic composure for an 18-year-old, she doesn’t seem likely to be fazed by her stardom.
