The story of teen sensation Raducanu is one written by the angels and gods. She had an absolutely fairy tale time in New York, coming through qualifiers to claim the title. Owing to the fact that Raducanu entered the main draw through qualifiers, she earned 40 points for the preliminary tournament. In addition, she has earned a mammoth 2,000 points for her historic success at Flushing Meadows. In total, this adds up to 2,040 ranking points in all, for the women’s singles winner. This is the highest number of points earned by a player from one tournament. However, on the flip side, this means that even if Emma ends up defending her title next year, she will only make 2,000 points. This means that irrespective of her performance next year at the US Open, she will end up losing points.

Raducanu’s sudden rise has been extraordinary

It all began at Wimbledon 2021, when a young home favorite caught the eyes of the fans. Match after match, Raducanu displayed powerful tennis to surge to victory. Making her way till the fourth round in itself was a gigantic achievement for her. Sadly, she had to pull out of the tournament due to medical reasons, but vowed to be back. Rest assured, she bounced back and how!
