Ever since her fairy tale run at the US Open in 2021, tennis fraternity’s eyes have been on British youngster Emma Raducanu. In her first Grand Slam appearance at the Wimbledon last year, she turned heads with her athleticism and neat, crisp strokes.

Even though the youngster had to retire during her fourth-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic because of breathing issues, it was clear that if she could maintain her form, she would surely be playing at the elite level.

The level of skill and maturity showed by Raducanu was outstanding at the US Open 2021 and she defeated several top players to set up a final against another teenager from Canada, Leylah Fernandez.

Will Emma Raducanu be working with Maria Sharapova’s ex-coach?

After her success at the Flushing Meadows, she discontinued her partnership with her long-time coach Andrew Richardson. Andrew was the one who shaped Raducanu into the player that she is today as he worked with her since her childhood at the Bromley Tennis Centre.

Raducanu has already been at the center of the conversation regarding coaches and their effect on the players. After she fired Richardson, the Brit mentioned that she was not actively looking for a coach and would prefer to develop her individual style but hoped to have one before the beginning of the 2022 season. She then appointed elite coach Torben Beltz, but in November 2021, had announced that she wouldn’t be continuing with Beltz.

Now, reports say that she has been training for a while in Bordighera at the Piatti Academy. For the uninitiated, Ricardo Piatti is one of the most sought-after star coaches, who have worked with several top 10 players in the ATP circuit including Novak Djokovic, Richard Gasquet, Ivan Ljubičić, Milos Raonic, Borna Coric and Jannik Sinner. In the WTA circuit, Piatti has previously worked with Maria Sharapova, a former World No. 1 and five-time Grand Slam champion.

While she awaits the results of her auditions, it is imperative that Emma Raducanu finds a trusted team to work with, who will be able to direct her potential in the correct way for that to be reflected on her results and her rankings.
