Bereavement from the loss of a close family member can push anyone to a standstill in their career. Recently, Kaja Juvan experienced the same after she lost her father. Her father was diagnosed with cancer last year and unfortunately succumbed to the illness in December. Juvan has continued playing on the Tour but feels that she needs to take a break from tennis. She made the announcement of her hiatus on Instagram.

Kaja Juvan is a young WTA player who has been ranked as high as 58. She has won a doubles WTA tournament with Natela Dzalamidze and won a total of 7 ITF titles. Juvan has also won two youth Olympic gold medals with Iga Swiatek.

Kaja Juvan announces a break from tennis

In a recent post on Instagram, Juvan announced a break from playing competitively. She opened the statement by saying that she wanted to tell her followers about something that she had been experiencing for the past few months.

The Slovenian added that ever since losing her dad; she has gone through a difficult time mentally. Along with that, she feels overwhelmed on most days and that the grieving process has been harder than she anticipated.

Some days are better, and some are worse for her. Due to all the ups and downs, Juvan stated that she was having difficulty participating in competitive matches. Her father loved watching tennis and especially loved watching her play, which is why she kept on training and playing. But she feels that she needs a break from playing at the highest level.

Juvan stated that she will continue to play normal tournaments or whatever feels right to her. She says that she loves tennis and loves the fact that she can play at her level. But as of now, she is unable to enjoy the game and wants to be in a mental state where she can.

She concluded the message by thanking everyone for their support. Even the comment section had several WTA players leaving their condolences and hoping for her return soon. Kaja Juvan has fought hard in the past few months and will be hoping that this break allows her to recuperate from the immense loss.
