American star Jessica Pegula is in the form of her life. The 29-year-old, who made it through to the finals of the Japan Open stunned everyone after she made it into the finals of the Korea Open as well. In the semi-finals, she faced Yanina Wickmayer whom she comfortably managed to defeat.

After the win, she came in and shared a heartfelt message for her fans. In the post-match interview, she came forward to thank the fans and everyone who was present at the stadium and rooted for her. She also mentioned that it was an honor for her to play in Korea after being half-Korean herself.

“I’m so excited to be in the finals.. being half Korean and being able to be in the final here is something I can always say. Hopefully I can win. Nonetheless, it’s an honor. So I’m really happy,” mentioned Pegula in the post-match speech.

Now with just one step lying between her and victory, she will be confident enough to lay her hands on the title and keep her momentum going strong. Also, what makes her victory more special is her Korean connection which many might not be aware of.

Pegula is half Korean thanks to her mom!

Despite being born in Buffalo, Pegula shares Korean roots, thanks to her mom. Jessica’s mom and dad are the multi-millionaire owners of the Buffalo Bills, a team in the National Football League (NFL). Pegula, through an interview, talked about her Korean origin and praised her mom for all the things that she has done in the world of sports.

“A lot of people don’t know that I’m half-Korean,” said Pegula in an interview. “A lot of the stuff that my mom did, being an Asian woman in sports, is really a big deal.”
