Eugenie Bouchard has seen it all during her 15-year-long professional career. Be it featuring in two semis and one final of the Grand Slam tournaments in the same year or winning her first WTA title. 2014 was phenomenal for the 30YO Canadian tennis sensation. But what happened after that? She couldn’t win a single title after that. Currently, she’s juggling as a professional athlete in two sports- tennis & pickleball.

Her lack of form was subject to several banters in the past. Lately, Bouchard turned up on the famous TV show, ‘Family Feud Canada‘. She spoke to the host Gerry Dee about how non-pro men feel they can beat WTA players. The fantasy match of Serena Williams and Roger Federer would be one to watch, isn’t it? 

Eugenie Bouchard makes a startling revelation surrounding the WTA players

Eugenie Bouchard is no stranger to social media attention. She has time and again found herself on the wrong end of social media trolls. During the show, she made a bizarre revelation stating, “You’d be surprised at the number of men who think they can beat me.” But is it the first time she said this?

Even last year she was seen speaking on this matter, when the US-based organization, Research Without Barriers, made a shocking revelation, declaring that 71% of the Americans surveyed felt they could match a tennis pro. They further stated that 82% and 47% of the targeted audience were in the age group of 18-24 and 55 and above, respectively.

Shortly after this report came to the news, Andy Roddick came to the forefront, describing how these amateur players stood no chance of winning even a point against a pro. Eugenie Bouchard stated, “People are so delusional it’s crazy!”

But how tough it is for Eugenie Bouchard to handle all these negativities around her? Well, she stated she has comprehended it is a “waste of time” to put her focus on them and allow them to affect her. Notably, it is not the first time she gave her points on this issue. 

Bouchard shuts down the naysayers

Eugenie Bouchard believes everybody has haters in their life. So, according to her, “It means you stood up for something in your life, it means you’ve done something in your life. Try to take it as a reverse compliment and just realize it is someone who maybe has their own issues or is mean or negative and you shouldn’t worry about someone like that.“

Instead, she believes, “You shouldn’t worry about their opinion, so I really try to take a step back from it and not take it personally.” Bouchard feels it’s essential not to shun back. She delves into the negative comments as “more of a reflection of them and how they’re feeling.” She believes staying in the middle of so much negativity is not straightforward, although. But she remains confident in her ability to shut down the critics.
