The struggles of being a new mother are often underestimated. Being a new mother comes with a lot of responsibilities that a person would have never thought of. But when American tennis legend Serena Williams gave birth to her first child, she made sure to express her viewpoint on how challenging accepting motherhood for the first time may be.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion gave birth to her daughter, Olympia, in 2017. And even though the pregnancy was smooth, she faced a lot of post-natal issues. On the one hand, she was coping with severe health complications that nearly killed her, on the other hand, handling new responsibilities as a mother was not an easy task for her.

Five years earlier, in 2018, when the 23-time Grand Slam champion was a new mother, she sat down for a conversation with “Good Morning America.”

Williams opened up about her medical scare that came in the form of post-pregnancy complications. Moreover, she also talked about how being a new mother is also not an easy task.

She said, “No one talks about the low moments-the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry. I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? the emotions are insane.”

She also mentioned that there are many unanticipated challenges that no one prepares you to face. And eventually, you’ll have to handle all of the undiscovered duties of being a new mother by yourself.

And rather than stressing out about how she is not able to spend time with her daughter, She is kind to herself and always tries to understand her situation as a person.
