2-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza played some exceptional tennis to seal her place in the finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2021. She thrashed Elise Mertens in straight sets in the semis of the tournament. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 7-5.
Interestingly, Garbine Muguruza won the match after earning her seventh match-point. Although she played really well, it became quite frustrating for her when she was not able to win that last point on her six previous tries. In the post-match interview, she revealed her feelings and emotions during the match.
“I didn’t think I played bad on the match points. They were just tough points that didn’t come to my side. She was very good in defense and on those points I felt she brought her magic. But I was like, OK, I’m playing well, sooner or later I will convert the match point. I didn’t lose the concentration or get too irritated,” said Muguruza in the interview.

The Spaniard will be up against Barbora Krejcikova in the finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2021 tomorrow. She’ll certainly like to play like the way she did against Elise Mertens today in the finals as well.
“Holding the champion’s trophy is everybody’s objective”- Garbine Muguruza
Muguruza is about to play her third final in the 2021 tennis season. Before this, she played two finals at the Yarra Valley Classic Open 2021 and at the Qatar Open 2021. Unfortunately, she lost both of them, and thus, in spite of a brilliant 2021 season, she is trophy less at the moment.
However, Muguruza believes that even though she wants to win a title, it is not her ultimate goal. In the same interview, she reflected that back-to-back finals mean that she is playing well, and she wants to continue doing that.

“Holding the champion’s trophy is everybody’s objective. We play hard in order to play the finals. Maybe they didn’t go my way, the recent finals I’ve played – but at some point it will. To be able to be there is a sign that you’re playing well, and that’s where I want to be,” added the 2-time Grand Slam winner.
