Going back in time, Will Smith received utmost praise for his impressive portrayal of Richard Williams in the movie ‘King Richard’. However, 4 months after its release, the tables were turned during the 94th Academy Awards. Attending the prestigious event, Smith was involved in an unfortunate incident with comedian/actor, Chris Rock.

After Rock made a joke on his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith went up to the stage, punching Rock in his face. While Smith won the ‘Best Actor’ award, he was criticized around the globe. The 53-year-old has been out of the public eye ever since then. However, 4 months after the incident, Smith’s King Richard co-star, Mikayla Bartholomew recently gave an update on Smith.

Following the incident, Smith issued a public apology through his social media handle. However, the apology hasn’t made Smith get over his possible feeling of regret. While Smith hasn’t made any public appearances since then, fans have been getting updates about him majorly from his colleagues.

One of those colleagues is his King Richard co-star, Mikayla Bartholomew. While Smith played Richard Williams in the movie, Mikayla played Tunde Price, the elder sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. Working together during the shoot, the two were reported to share a strong bond of friendship between them.

Recently, Mikayla attended the BET Awards. Dazzling in blue trousers and a crop top, she admitted that she had a word with Smith. Going ahead in the conversation, she also opened up about the current mental state of her on-screen father. “

Every time I talk to him, he always says everything is in divine splendor, ya know, so he’s good” she asserted. “It’s always good to chat with him,” she further added.

As per reports, Mikayla was accompanied by Saniyya Sidney at the BET Awards. During the conversation, Sidney also admitted that she had a word with Smith. However, unlike Mikayla, she refused to open up about her conversation.

The Williams sisters ensured the movie told their authentic story

As known by all, King Richard is a docu-drama on Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. While Venus and Serena have their names in the movie, that wasn’t the case during the initial days. Being a movie based on their family, the sisters wanted the correct things to be told.

Going back in time, Venus attended the Star Guild Awards. Conversing on the red carpet, she admitted that it was the primary condition of the sisters that everything shown in the movie should be authentic. Going further, the two sisters only agreed to give their names to the project after seeing the final script of the 2 hour 24 minute long docu-drama.
