Recently the Serbian former world number one, appeared in an exclusive episode of EssentiallySports Fancast hosted by Kenny Ducey. She spoke about the current superstars of tennis and touted Mirra Andreeva as the next big thing in tennis.

The 16-year-old Russian is currently on a dream run at the 2024 Australian Open. Andreeva, who’s already known for her giant-killing abilities, has won 3 out of her 3 matches in the tournament. Her performance has drawn the appreciation of several superstars of the game, including Ana Ivanovic.

Mirra Andreeva recently made a dramatic comeback to win her third-round match against the French, Diane Parry by a 1-6,6-1,7-6(5) margin. She came back from 5-1 down in the final set and saved the match point to make her way to the next round. This victory not only shows her ability to perform at the top level but also her ability to hold her nerves at crucial moments.

Here’s what the former Australian Open finalist, Ana Ivanovic said about this young talent on the ES Fancast. “You know what I haven’t watched Mirra’s whole matches, I haven’t seen how she has been playing. I have seen it in bits and pieces, and it’s amazing. I think she really has a bright future. And, it’s great to see young players going on and challenging top players,” Ivanovic said to EssentiallySports.

The former world number one celebrated the 16YO’s win and stated that it was her mental toughness that saw her through this epic battle on Friday. Andy Murray tweeted, “Andreeva down 5-1 in third. Commentator “she really needs to work on mental side of her game.. she’s too hard on herself when she’s losing” 30 minutes later 7-6 Andreeva wins.”

“Maybe the reason she turned the match round is because of her mental strength. Maybe she turned the match around because she is hard on herself and demands more of herself when she’s losing/playing badly? Winner.”
