The Swiss tennis star last picked up her racket during her participation in the San Diego Open, where she faced an early-round defeat. Later, Bencic was set up for a high-profile match against her American colleague, Taylor Townsend, at the Guadalajara Open. However, Townsend was given a walkover as her Swiss opponent announced her withdrawal before the commencement of the tournament.
