Mark Petchey is a former player who has coached Andy Murray to the top 50s. But his status did not save him from the ire of Serena Williams fans. Petchey recently interviewed with Tennis Channel, where he called Coco Gauff the best women’s tennis player in history, effectively snubbing Williams. He gave the example of the time Steffi Graf played and said that tennis is much faster now.

Despite Graf’s 22 grand slams, Petchey pits her above Gauff and does not mention Williams at all. His concluding statement was, I personally think that Coco Gauff, looking at her right now, with the speed that the game is being played at, is the best women’s tennis athlete that we have ever seen.”

The comment by Petchey drew a lot of flak, and Gauff was unfortunately caught in the middle of it. While her name is being brought up in the discussion, she has already shared the name of her greatest of all time.

Gauff chooses Serena Williams as her GOAT

Although the argument on Petchey’s remarks heated up quite a bit, the person in question has another player as her favorite. In an interview with Vogue, Gauff said that Serena Williams is undeniably the greatest of all time in tennis. While she is her idol, she is not trying to become her or trying to take her mantle. She believed that no one could take that away from Williams, and she would just try to be the best Coco Gauff on tour.
