The role of Richard Williams in the success of his daughters, Venus and Serena Williams, has been immense. He introduced the two sisters to tennis. Moreover, he would take them to public tennis courts and started training them when they were just four and a half years old. In November 2021, a biographical drama named ‘King Richard’ was released, inspired by the life of Richard Williams.

The film garnered positive reviews from critics, and recently, it bagged another nomination for a prestigious award.

Serena Williams’ reaction to the news

King Richard had already been nominated for various awards like the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and others. Surprisingly, Will Smith won his career’s first Golden Globe for his portrayal of Richard in the biographical drama.

Yesterday, the nominations for Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced and King Richard received nominations in two categories. Will Smith was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role’ category and the other nomination was in the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture’ category.

The younger Williams sister, who is also one of the executive producers, took to Instagram and said, “this feels like a new dream.” She shared a story on her official Instagram handle, displaying the poster of the movie.

Recently, Rick Macci, the former coach of Williams sisters, opened up about the personality of their father, Richard Williams. He was of the opinion that Richard was very determined, focused, and confident. Macci’s role in the movie is played by Jon Bernthal, who’s also a part of the nomination as a member of the cast.

The central focus of King Richard, Serena and Venus Williams, have gone on to become the most successful sibling pair in the history of tennis. Not only have they won several accolades in singles but also have combined to win 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together.

On the singles front, Serena has gone on to win 23 Grand Slam titles and is one title away from equaling Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. The elder Williams sister has 7 Grand Slam titles in women’s singles.
