When Cancun was announced as the location for the WTA Finals, fans were glad that the organization gave them some confirmation. Their happiness would be shortly-lived as the images from the sight would not live up to their standards.

As an ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) user shared a picture of the early stages of the stadium’s construction, fans have become concerned about the state of the venue just a few weeks away from the tournament.

The state of the stadium this close to the Finals comes into question even more as the overall prize pool for the event is $9 million. From a total budget of approximately $15 million, they likely spent close to $6 million for the stadium itself.

Feeling uncertain about the construction, one fan questioned if anyone should purchase the tickets or if it was the actual picture of the construction.

One person understood that the reach of tennis media was not far and wide, but they also pressed on the need for an investigation behind the seemingly shoddy construction. They further said that WTA also needed to be investigated for their deals this year.

A user slammed the Women’s Tennis Association for being unorganized. They also called them unprofessional, demanding that the leadership be changed. Desperate improvements were required as per them.

The picture scared one user as they felt the structure was unsafe.

One user simply refused to believe that this was the early stages of development.

A tennis fan believed that the original poster was joking before they crosschecked.

Angered by the picture, one fan felt that respect was in short supply for women players throughout the season, and then the state of the construction made it worse.

A WTA fan could not comprehend why Prague was turned down for Cancun.

Another women’s tennis fan was astounded by the choice of the location.

The venue is nowhere near close to construction, and the finals are set to commence on 29th October. The state of the venue is shoddy, to say the least. It is likely that the arena will be built on a temporary basis, but fans are not enjoying the state of the arena even slightly at the moment. But this is not the only time the WTA was criticized this year.
