Fighting For His Life: Coco Gauff Sends Love to NBA Referee Tony Brown

17-year-old Coco Gauff has surely impressed fans with some terrific performances in the 2021 season. Even though she is not even 18, she is already World No.25 in the WTA rankings and gives some really tough competition to the opponents that she faces on the court. However, some fans don’t know that the rising star has an immense interest in basketball as well and follows the sport.

Recently, Coco Gauff put up an Instagram story that is winning the hearts of fans. She wished NBA referee Tony Brown, who is currently fighting for his life, a speedy recovery by sharing a post on her Instagram. Interestingly, she added three purple hearts in order to extend her support to the referee.

“A year ago, Tony Brown was reffing his first NBA Finals. Now, he’s fighting for his life,” was the caption that was written in the post.

NBA announced that Brown was suffering from Pancreatic Cancer in May, 2021. As a result, the body decided that he would not be officiating any more matches in this season. However, who knew at that time that his cancer would go this worse that he would have to fight for his life in July, 2021.

Gauff has had a topsy-turvy season in 2021. Even though she didn’t enjoy an ideal start and lost in the second round of the Australian Open 2021, she ended up as the semi-finalist of the next tournament, the Adelaide International 2021.

She played extremely well in the clay-court season and managed to reach the semis of the Italian Open 2021. Although the champion, Iga Swiatek, defeated her there, she next reached Parma where she secured the twin title.

Gauff played some brilliant tennis at the French Open 2021 but eventually lost in the pre-quarters. She was going well even at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 as well unless Angelique Kerber thrashed her in straight sets in the pre-quarters.

Overall, it has been a great season for Coco Gauff. Fans have really high expectations from her and want her to win a Grand Slam soon. Will she be able to end the year within the top 20 WTA rankings?
