The 23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is one of the most down-to-earth and fun athletes. She doesn’t believe in tying herself to the sport and loves exploring new things. In fact, this nature has helped her make friends in different sectors.

Needless to say, she gave all her time and dedication to tennis. However, simultaneously, she kept her interest in other things intact as well. The same came in handy when she needed a distraction. While facing a rough patch and recovering from a gruesome injury, she decided to try one of those things. 

When Serena Williams showed her pedicure skills

In the year 2009, Williams suffered an injury that took her off the court for a while and she used that to explore nail art. Williams took the course of nail technician and, after a year of practice, tested her skills on Oprah Winfrey. “It kinda relaxes me. I’m always watching TV and kinda wasting time and not really doing much.” The former World no.1 while giving Winfrey a pedicure said.  

“I can’t believe Serena Williams is actually filing my big toe.” An overwhelmed Winfrey confessed with a slight laugh. “Unbelievable.” Other than the famous talk show host Williams is good friends with celebs such as Kim Kardashian and Beyonce as well.

Beyonce wrote and voiced the song Be Alive that added soul to the movie King Richard. The movie encompasses both Williams sisters’ life and tells the tale of their rise. Further, she even gave a live performance during the Oscars from the Compton-based tennis court where Serena and Venus spent their early days practicing.

Williams marked the end of an illustrious career

Williams, who spent years trying to secure her 24 majors title, decided to give it a final try at this season’s US Open. The seven-time Wimbledon champion, after making a comeback from a pestering hamstring injury announced her retirement tour.

She enrolled in the WTA 1000 tournaments in Canada and Cincinnati to oil her skills for the Grand Slam. However, in both events, she faced initial round defeats.

With her will and her fans’ support, the 41-year-old entered the US Open. She, surprising all, took down the second seed and then WTA No.2 in the second round to keep her record intact. Though in the round of 32, she failed to get past the Aussie Ajla Tomljanović, and after that tussle hung her racket.
