The entire world of tennis remembers the scenes of the 2018 US Open women’s final. Serena Williams argued with the umpire, Carlos Ramirez, which led to her crashing in the match. Rennae Stubbs, her former coach, also talked about the issue and also thought about how Venus Williams would’ve acted if she had been in place of her sister.

How Venus Williams would’ve been in the 2018 US Open final

As one of the other players on tour at that time, Venus was also involved in the crux of the matter. According to Serena’s former coach, Venus would’ve gone about the scenario with an entirely different approach. While Serena chose to fight relentlessly, Venus took a calmer approach to the injustice.

Venus would’ve handled it very differently. Venus would’ve walked up there and said, ‘I’m just gonna tell you right now’, she would’ve done it very diplomatically because I’ve seen her so many times, ‘I’m not a cheat; I was not looking at him, he does not coach me, he may have been doing things, but not to me. So you’ve given me that point penalty, but I want everyone to know I do not cheat’, and she would’ve played on.”

Stubbs stated that the seven-time grand slam champion is not as emotional as her sister. Therefore, Venus would’ve maintained a calm demeanor and taken a diplomatic approach to the situation, given what Stubbs has observed.

She wouldn’t have ruminated over it because that is her personality. She’s able to control herself in that way. But she would’ve been very stern. Serena? totally opposite.”

It has been five long years since the event took place. Yet, discussions about the situation are still at the forefront many times. From Stubbs’ explanation, Serena’s personality led to mistakes in her approach. With inspiration from her sister, she could’ve dealt with the scenario in a different manner altogether.
