Coco Gauff was a player who gained fame at a very young age and climbed to the top of the WTA early. However, the American youngster wasn’t able to keep up with the demands of the tour at the start of the season. Eventually, Brad Gilbert became a part of her team, which turned everything around for her. Her improvement shows that Gilbert was a great hire, which is reiterated by a former American professional player.

Along with Brad Gilbert, Gauff also employed Pere Riba in her team. The Spanish coach helped her move ahead, but he had to depart from coaching her due to personal reasons. However, she still has Gilbert on her team.

The start of the season saw constant obstacles in Coco Gauff’s path. The American sensation had troubles with some aspects of her game, especially her forehand. Her status was in jeopardy, but with the guidance of her newly hired coach and guide, Brad Gilbert, she managed to make a sparkling comeback to the top-level competition.

Jan-Michael Gambil praised the new hire of Gauff as she made quite a name for herself after her improvement. He talked about it in the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast.

He said, “I remember saying that was a good hire. And it certainly was. She did pretty much everything that she could have done to have the best year of her career and she has fixed that forehand. Just made making better choices on it. And again, Brad was the right person to put in there.”

Along with Gilbert, Gauff was also guided by Pere Riba. The Spanish coach was one of the biggest reasons Gauff won the Western & Southern Open and the US Open. However, he won’t be able to coach her anymore as the two announced a split in October.

Pere Riba leaves Gauff

When Pere Riba and Gauff teamed up, the 19-year-old was ousted from Wimbledon in the first round, which did not evoke any faith in her. However, she would turn it around very soon. After her Wimbledon exit, Gauff won her first WTA 500 title, the Masters title, and her first grand slam. The team was a cut above the rest, but it would not last for long. Riba and Gauff announced that they would be splitting near the end of October
