After Alycia Parks beat the top seed Caroline Garcia at the Lyon Open, she clinched her spot in the headlines. Renowned American tennis stars like Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens reached out to her to congratulate her on the big win. However, as it has always been with tennis fans, the fire of competition doesn’t go out. Soon after Parks won the finals, an influencer account posted a prediction about her career that offended Coco fans.

The account, @TheGamblingTailor, went all out with their blunt opinion of Parks being a better player than Gauff. While some fans of the Lyon Open champion have sided with him, Gauff fans found no point in bringing up this debacle. According to them, the controversy is unnecessary, and the prediction is baseless. While Twitter is divided over this rift, neither of the two entities has responded to this viral debate.
Coco Gauff versus Alycia Parks: an unnecessary comparison?
The user Gambling Tailor decided to celebrate Parks’ victory over Garcia by hinting at her great tennis future. In doing so, the fan has taken up Coco Gauff as her comparison. They stated, “Anyone who thinks Coco Gauff is better than Queen Alycia Parks is just stupid.” As is evident by their calling of Alycia Parks as “Queen”, this fan is quite devoted to their idol. The Gambling Tailor continued, “Parks will be a top-ten player in 7 months.”
They are hinting at Parks’ probable progress throughout the 2023 season and her ranking in the top 10 by the end of the US Open. However, fans of the 2022 French Open finalist have not taken this comment casually and flocked to the post with their comebacks.

Other fans have simply failed to understand the point of this whole debate. They are not sure as to why Gauff was even brought into the discussion of Alycia Parks’ future.

Now, we are not going to do that! Two players can be great at the same time. Absolutely no need to put down Gauff to uplift Parks. https://t.co/oP7NkxgFE6

Coco Gauff fans and tennis enthusiasts in general have expressed their disappointment at these tweets. In their opinion, these are unnecessary comparisons as she is already ranked no.6 in singles and no.2 in doubles.

If the past is any indication, both these fanbases do not like comparing their idols. However, there are a few striking similarities in the playing style of Parks and Gauff. And one of the major similarities is that both these young WTA stars base their game on the Williams sisters.
