Former Champs Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens Bolster US Open 2021 Preparations in Cincinnati

Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens have received wild card entries into the 2021 Western and Southern Open. The World No. 109 and World No. 69 will join a group of top 20 players in the WTA ranking. The tournament begins on the 14th of August.

Sloane will be playing at the Silicon Valley Classic before heading to Ohio in August. Her first-round match will be taking place tomorrow against Alison Riske.

Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens’ 2021

Sloane Stephens is currently experiencing a 14-12 win-loss record in 2021. The World No. 69 has played 11 tournaments this year, including the three Grand Slam events. Her best finish has been at the Emilia Romagna Open in Parma. She reached the semifinals in Parma, eventually losing out to Qiang Wang.

Venus on the other hand had a poor run this year as she only made it till the round of 64 of a few tournaments. In the doubles category too, she could not prove her old worth and magic. In the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Venus’s mixed doubles partner, Nick Kyrgios got injured and the pair had to withdraw from the event.

Venus Williams will be making her eighth appearance at the Western and Southern Open. She made it to the 2012 Western and Southern Open semifinals. She eventually lost out to Chinese national, Li Na in three sets. Venus was playing through a back injury.

Sloane too reached the semifinals of the event in 2017. She is enjoying a 14-9 record at the event and will be looking to go past the semifinal stage this year. The biggest moment for the young American was the US Open title in 2017.

Both players will be looking to prepare well for the big event in August in New York and will look for a strong finish in Ohio.
