‘Found a Lot of Checks..’ – Venus and Serena Williams’ Mother Oracene Price Narrated an Anecdote of How Money Never Mattered to the Sisters

Serena Williams shares a great bond with her elder sister Venus Williams. They are one of the most successful sibling duos on the WTA tour. They share a great bond and stand up for each other, both on the tennis court and in their personal lives.
Almost everyone knows about the influence of their father, Richard Williams, on the sisters’ careers. However, one person who is often left out is their mother, Oracene Price. Price once sat down for an interview and talked candidly about the lives of her two champion daughters.

Price cherishes her daughter’s tender years.
Oracene Price has always been proud of her daughters and how far they have come. In a throwback interview given to the Post, Price mentioned that “Serena and her sister have always been head to head when it comes to tennis. In their younger years, when Serena and her sister Venus, now 36, lost a game, they would simply run off the court.”

“Serena loves competing and loves the trophy. So if she and Venus lost, they would just leave their [prize] money there because, to them, all they cared about was bringing home the trophy and accomplishing the goal,” added Price. “The accountant found a lot of checks that they had left behind. He had to change the way they got paid,” she said, with a laugh.

Not only in the court, but the duo has always seen supporting each other. Serena and her sister Venus are quite active on social media and are always talking about each other.
Serena and her sister Venus will be playing in the US Open this year, and could face each other. This will be the last time that we will get an opportunity to see the iconic duo go against each other for the last time. Earlier this month, Serena announced her retirement from tennis. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has already played her last Masters tournaments, the National Bank Open and the Cincinnati Masters.

Venus and Serena Williams, both have come a long way
They started their professional careers only a year apart. Over the years, they both have paved their way to a successful career. Going back in time, the duo’s first meeting on the court was when they played the second round of the Australian Open back in the year 1998. After that, in 2002, Serena outmatched Venus in four consecutive matches, including the US Open. In their career, to date, they have played against each other 31 times.

To date, they share one of the best rivalries on the tennis court. Serena, being the youngest, leads the way. On the other hand, her sister refuses to hold back either. The head-to-head record stands in favor of Serena at 19-12. They both give tough competition to each other and have dominated the women’s circuit for over two decades.
