

It has been a memorable French Open 2022 for two of America’s biggest stars on the women’s circuit, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula. While the former reached the finals in women’s singles, the latter made it to the last eight in the recently concluded French Open.

Apart from their successful run in the singles competition, Gauff and Pegula teamed up to finish as the runners-up in women’s doubles. They lost in the summit clash against the French pairing of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. Because of their successful campaigns in Paris, they have seen a significant rise in their latest WTA rankings, both in signles and doubles.
Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula attain career-high singles ranking
In the latest WTA rankings, Pegula has reached her best ranking of Number 8 in women’s singles. Owing to her quarterfinal appearance, she climbed three places to become the eighth-best player in the world. Meanwhile, Gauff has had a massive jump in the WTA rankings after a runner-up finish at Roland Garros. She has climbed 10 spots to 13th, a career-high ranking for her as well.

Expressing her delight at attaining this milestone, Pegula said, “Waking up to some lifelong milestone goals. Top 10 in singles at #8 and Top 15 doubles at #13. Sometimes there aren’t words. Just a fist pump, grit, and some determination.”

Gauff on her emotions while playing in her maiden Grand Slam singles final
Gauff had a forgettable outing against Iga Swiatek in the finals of the French Open 2022 as she went down in straight sets. Talking about her emotions during the match, she said, “I feel like the moment was definitely more minimal than I thought. I mean, in the match it probably looked like I was freaking out, but really it was just Iga was too good, I wasn’t freaking out.”
