“Frustrating”: Victoria Azarenka Criticizes French Open 2021 Organizers as They Were Not Accommodating Players’ Needs

Two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka recently suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the fourth round of the French Open 2021. Despite winning the first set, the Belarusian player failed to hold on to her lead and lost in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 2-6.
After her loss, Azarenka raised questions over the management of the French Open 2021. She criticized the organizers and mentioned that they were not at all accommodating to the needs of the players.
“I just think that in general sometimes things here are made a bit too complicated,” began Azarenka. “It has nothing to do with today’s match. It’s just honestly a bit frustrating every time you’re trying to deal with the organization here, it’s becoming ‘pas possible’. Everything you hear is ‘pas possible’.”

She reflected that she is not saying all this because she lost her recent match at Roland Garros 2021. Instead, she stated that it is almost impossible for the players to talk to the French Open’s management about their needs.

Azarenka even cited an incident where she felt that things were not done properly at the major. She said that during her warm-up matches, the clay used to be a little wet which, she believes, is quite dangerous while training.
“When you’re coming to warm up before the match, the court is completely wet where it’s kind of dangerous to move. I just have a genuine question, Why? Why can it not be ready when people know somebody is coming to practice, players, are going to warm up? I don’t understand why simple things like this are not in place,” added the Belarusian player.
