When greatness is often discussed and it comes to the WTA tour, two names stand out at the top, Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams. Throughout their career as professional athletes, the two sisters caused havoc on the court and were a pure force to be dealt with. However, out of the two, the younger one, Serena Williams stood at the top with a massive record of 23 grand slams to her name. But, when it comes to their head-to-head record, Venus holds a record that no other player has ever managed to achieve.

Despite this, she hasn’t been able to draw the attention that she should have got. Reflecting on the same, their childhood coach, Rick Macci, in an interview, reflected on a special record that Venus Williams holds against her sister Serena, which is not often talked about.

In the interview, Rick Macci said that Venus Williams doesn’t always get the credit she deserves, especially for beating her sister Serena in tennis. Macci pointed out that Venus defeated Serena 12 times in singles matches, something no other female player has done.

He then went on to add that Venus’s amazing talent often doesn’t get noticed, “she kind of gets lost in the shuffle“. Even though Serena gets a lot of attention for her success. On the other hand, Venus’s achievements, like beating Serena so many times, don’t always stand out.

“Who beat Serena more than anybody was Venus, she beat her 12 times, no one could even come close to saying that, and Serena’s played a long time, it was 19 and 12 you know so at the end of the day Venus was amazing and she kind of gets lost in the shuffle. People have no idea how good Venus Williams was. She transcended the sport she brought an athlete,” said Macci in the interview.

Thus, Venus Williams is not just a great tennis player but also someone who changed the game with her skill. Despite this, people sometimes forget how remarkable she was, especially in outplaying her sister, Serena Williams, time and again.

Further in the interview, Rick Macci was also asked questions about the possible retirement date for Venus Williams. However, the former coach did not come up with a straightforward answer but left the listeners in a confused state.

Rick Macci talks about how long can Venus Williams still play

When asked about how long Venus Williams can play professionally, Macci suggested that it will all be dependent on her. Adding to it he suggested that despite being over 40, she is still a great threat in the doubles with her bulletproof serves. Not only this, she’ll also be covering half courts, unlike the full courts in singles.

“I think it’s up to, I think it’s up to Venus but listen she could still be a threat in doubles or mix doubles if she wanted to play you know I mean she only covering half the court she can still serve and she has that bullet compt in return so it’s really up to her,” said Macci in the interview.

Thus, despite being over 40, Venus Williams has no plans as such to hang up her boots at the moment. While she still can be a threat in the doubles, her fans would be willing to see her bag major grand slam success in the doubles.

One take at a time

In a world where player rivalries dominate social media conversations, I am someone who prefers to enjoy the skills showcased on the court rather than be involved in feuds over the greatness of players. Right from my early childhood, I have been engrossed by the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It turned me into a ?Fedal? fan and eventually, when I graduated from college, this fandom created an interest in covering their exploits on the court.
