It is a well-known fact in the world of tennis that Serena Williams did not have an easy time with her first childbirth. After getting a C-section, the Queen of the Court suffered many post-natal complications. Williams was able to recover and eventually make a successful comeback to the WTA Tour. Six years later, the two have another child on the horizon. This time, however, Williams is ready for any complications that she might face during childbirth. Right along with her is her husband, Alexis Ohanian, who is also prepared for anything that can go awry.

The first time Williams went through childbirth was a difficult trial, to say the least. While facing many issues, Williams’ concerns also went unheard, taking her one step closer to a fatal condition. However, the power couple are determined not to experience the same this time around.

The two announced that Williams was pregnant again during the Met Gala. Before the two can begin to spend their time with another baby, they have to prepare for any complications that may come up during childbirth. In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Ohanian explained how the two had set every measure in place.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sure that this childbirth goes smoothly,” the Reddit co-founder said. “Serena knows her body better than anyone on the planet. So, we’re both doing everything we can to prepare, just getting all our ducks in a row, getting the room ready … [We’re] gonna be super-intentional and super-thoughtful once we get to the hospital, doing everything we can do, and then, the rest is out of our control.”

This time, the doctor and nurses helping Williams will be more cognizant of her worries instead of being flagrant like the last time.

How the WTA Legend saved herself

After undergoing a C-section, Williams experienced incessant coughing. The 23-time grand slam champion could not find respite as her stitches kept opening up due to the hacking coughs. After a few restitches, Williams asked the nurse for a heparin drip and a CAT scan. At first, the nurse did not pay attention to her calls. Eventually, after insisting for a while, the scan revealed a pulmonary embolism.
