Jessica had a strong run in the Australian Open earlier this year, reaching the quarter-final where she lost to the eventual champion Ashleigh Barty. She also made it to the semi-final of the Miami Open, where she went down against current world number 1 Iga Swiatek.

The 28-year-old yet again lost out in the final and missed out on her chance to win the second WTA title of her career. Pegula has just one singles career title to her name so far. In 2019, she beat Camila Giorgi to win the Washington Open.

Owing to her brilliant performance in the Madrid Open, Jessica is likely to rise to her career-best rank of number 11 in the world.
