World number nine Polish player Iga Swiatek, who recently won the Italian Open, has become one of the top contenders for the French Open this year. Also, Swiatek is the defending champion at Roland Garros.

With her aggressive brand of tennis, Swiatek has risen to the top ranks of WTA tour ever so quickly. Even though there were minor hiccups in between, the Polish player bounced back in Rome last week to win her third title on the women’s tour.

Recently, the young tennis star took to Instagram to announce that she was vaccinated. Both ATP and WTA authorities have been urging people to take up vaccinations as and when their turn arrives.

While there was initial apprehension from players, there has been a steady improvement in the vaccination numbers from them. With Roger Federer recently announcing that he got the jab, it might boost other players to openly participate in vaccination drives in their respective countries.

On the women’s side, top stars like Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep, Ash Barty, Victoria Azarenka already announced that they were vaccinated against COVID-19. The latest to join the list was Iga Swiatek.

Team Swiatek is vaccinated. I appreciate this possibility because it gives me more sense of security and peace of mind with all the traveling and life on tour. Back to work and counting the days when you – fans will be able to be with us live”, the Pole wrote.

From the caption, it was clear that Swiatek’s team also got vaccinated. With both the tours(ATP &WTA) planning to organize events with fans, there will be a high amount of safety if athletes get their jabs.

The Polish player made a steady progress in rankings this year. By winning the Adelaide Open, she reached the top-15 for the first time in her career. Winning the Italian Open made her jump to number nine in the rankings.

With the French Open spinning a lot of surprises over the past few years on the women’s side, it will be interesting to see whether Iga Swiatek can defend her title successfully.
