The energy that Venus and Serena Williams radiated together was unmatchable! Not only have they played singles throughout their tennis careers, but they have also been a part of each other’s professional circuit on the doubles court. But do you know that Venus is tagged as a specialist in the doubles division? Hold on, the reality behind this is quite different.

The 43-year-old American tennis player recently discussed the label of “double specialist.” She also discussed the elements that contributed to her success on the doubles court with her sister.

Witnessing both iconic sisters play together on the tennis court was like a dream come true. Apart from winning singles grand titles, they have also created their name in the doubles world. But just like Serena Williams is quite popular in the singles circuit, her sister is often addressed as a ‘doubles specialist’.

Recently, the seven-time Grand Slam champion shared a video on her YouTube channel where she talked about whether she is worthy of the tag or not. She said, “A lot of people don’t believe me, but I am not a double specialist. I had a really good partner, if you’ve heard of her, her name is Serena Williams and we just made a really great team. Like we both had, like these really big serves and big returns and a lot of intangible. So made it easy to partner together. We knew each other.” 

Venus clearly stated that she is not a doubles specialist but at the same time highlighted how the presence of her sister and the connection between them made the doubles matches great. Further, she also highlighted that for her, it was quite interesting to play doubles because, while it was fun, it always had a little pressure, regarding how she didn’t want to get her partner in trouble.

But now, since the 42-year-old American tennis legend retired from the tennis court, her sister’s connection with the doubles side has also reduced significantly. That being said, the older Williams sibling disappointed her fans a while back by paying a shocking tribute to her younger sister with an unfortunate doubles update.

A few months ago, during a question-and-answer session on her Instagram, a fan asked her whether there were chances to watch the iconic sibling duo back on the doubles court. She clearly stated that a lot of things in her own professional career have changed as a result of her sister’s choices. She said, “When Serena retired, I retired from doubles as well. When you have @serenawilliams as a partner, you have seen the glory at the mountaintop.” 

However, a few months ago, she was almost ready to get on the doubles court once again, but not with Serena; she was ready to take a chance with Ons Jabeur, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out.
