Losses are not easy for anyone. Not even for tennis legends like Venus Williams, who changed the face of the sport. Her arrival on the scene with her sister, Serena Williams, not only revolutionized the sport but also gave it a vision of how things can be. Although losses are part of success, they can be difficult to handle. The same is the case with Venus Williams, who once detailed her coping mechanism when she suffers a loss on the court.

With seven Grand Slam titles under her name, Venus is still going strong on the court. Despite her sister’s retirement this year, the former world no.1 is planning to continue to be on the court for some time.
Venus Williams once opened up about her coping mechanism after a loss
In an interview in 2008, Venus talked about how suffering a loss was always difficult. When asked about her view on losses, she said, “Oh, I hate losses.” Williams further went on to talk about the ones that are the most difficult. She said, “Oh my gosh, some of them are hard like Grand Slam losses are hard.” However, she also knew that she had to take it easy on herself, so she treated herself.

She said, “I treat myself after losses though, I usually go to McDonald’s and I have a hamburger…Because you just need to be nice to yourself sometimes after the loss.”
The seven-time Grand Slam champion has suffered some disheartening losses in recent years on the court. However, her love for the sport has always been the same. The American tennis player still has goals concerning her on-court career and we are all up for it.

Is Venus making a comeback?
The former world no. 1 made it clear that we would be seeing her on the court for some more time now. Despite being the elder sister, Venus is in no rush to retire from the sport. The ASB chairman recently talked about Venus Williams approaching them to recieve a wildcard entry to the tournament.

However, her participation in Auckland is conditional on the fact that she gets an entry to the Australian Open 2023. So, we might see the American tennis legend play at a major if the hard-court major gives her a wild card entry.
