While Alexis Ohanian has diversified his business portfolio, his wife, Serena Williams, isn’t left behind. Ohanian and Williams have many joint investments, like the one in the NWSL club, Angel City FC. Despite the Reddit co-founder having a massive business empire, he often receives tips and suggestions from his wife.

Since retiring from tennis, the American legend has been personally involved in expanding her business empire. Be it her investments in sports or the fashion world, Williams was always at the forefront of this journey. Recently, she revealed how she and her husband talk about businesses.

Serena Williams shares the valuable business insights she offered Alexis Ohanian

Earlier this month, Serena Williams sat down with Bloomberg Originals for an in-depth interview. During the conversation, the interviewer asked her about the extent of her influence on Ohanian’s investments. Replying to this question, Williams agreed that she always gives valuable tips to her husband in this regard.

She said, “Well I think my influence on him is just, he really wants that success. He really wants to be seen as that best investor. And he is, he’s such a great investor and I’m like, you already have that. But he wants it to be even more amplified. And also just explaining to him and just giving him my insights of, you know, how to play the game.”

Further, she went on to add, “Because you have to be able to play the game, whether you’re investing or whether you are in sport. It’s, it’s who plays the game the best. And some of the greatest businessmen and investors play the game better than someone who actually might be better and smarter.”

On the contrary, Ohanian’s investment in Angel City FC was against the wishes of Serena Williams. The American legend had a hilarious take on why her husband went ahead with the deal despite her preference being something else.

When Ohanian went against Williams’ wish of amplifying tennis

During the same interview, the 23-time Grand Slam champion explained how Ohanian set his sights on Angel City FC as an investor. Interestingly, it was their daughter, Olympia, who was playing soccer, after which the Reddit co-founder struck up an idea to invest in an NWSL club.

However, at that time, Williams wanted to invest in tennis and help that sport grow. But Ohanian was firm on his call, and Williams explained, “I think he [Ohanian] kind of did that deal [Angel City FC purchase]to make me mad. Because I’m like, let’s do something in tennis because obviously, let’s amplify tennis.”

Nonetheless, it turned out to be a masterstroke, with Williams also joining her husband and investing in Angel City FC. Subsequently, the power couple has also gone on to invest in other sports like golf and also wants to invest in a women’s basketball team.
