‘I didn’t think I could zip this up’ – Naomi Osaka

Having recently given birth to her baby daughter Shai, who’s not even a year old, an exuberant Osaka was thrilled to fit back into her 2019 US Open outfit. She animatedly shared her excitement by posting a clip on her Instagram handle which was captioned “happy.” The video is titled: “Trying on my outfit from the 2019 US Open” and the clip seems to be from a studio she must have visited for a shoot.

In the clip, a thrilled Osaka can be seen saying, “So this is my US Open 2019 outfit and honestly I didn’t think I could zip this up so I am very excited! I know I am very pumped, it’s giving that clip where Beyonce called Jay Z because she fit back into her gold outfit. I am feeling the exact same way.”

She further, says the outfit is from the limited edition collaboration between Sacai a luxury fashion brand from Japan, and leading sports apparel giant Nike, who is also her sponsor, “Umm you know it’s Sacai! Sacai x Nike!”

Usually reserved, the 26-year-old has blossomed, not only as a four-time Grand Slam title holder but also as a strong creative mind. Sort of a fashion nerd since a young age, she has collaborated many times to produce interesting designs.

Back in 2020, the Japanese tennis sensation transformed her passion into a tangible endeavor with the assistance of Japanese designer Hanako Maeda and her brand ADEAM, launching the Naomi Osaka Collection which was sold on their e-commerce site.

The blend of traditional Japanese designs and modern elements with origami-style drapings and contemporary Kawai-style ruffles was appreciated by all. More recently though, Osaka went digital to collaborate with Meta.

In 2023 the tennis star teamed up with Meta for an exclusive digital apparel collection, specially crafted for the Meta Avatars Store, set to hit Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, and VR platforms soon. Osaka said, “It’s all about pushing myself outside of the box.”

The champ has collaborated with the likes of Nike, Levi’s, and Tag Heuer, injecting her creative juices into their articles by launching her collection under their brands!
