Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka crashed out of the Madrid Open after suffering a shocking defeat in the second round against the local favorite, Sara Sorribes Tormo. Not to mention, Osaka looked uncomfortable throughout the game.

Naomi went down 6-3 6-1 in a straight-set loss. Although she seemed to suffer from an Achilles injury she picked up in the first round. Osaka struggled for rhythm and was dominated by Sorribes Tormo, who mixed her game up to devastating effect to notch up her second career victory over the Japanese.

Naomi Osaka on her Wimbledon plans

In the post-match media interaction, Naomi shocked everyone by revealing her plans for Wimbledon. She explained how she was working on her net game and said she is planning to play mixed doubles in the grass-court event.

“I have been like really trying to focus on my net game because I’m going to play mixed doubles in Wimbledon,” Osaka told reporters.

She further added that the decision to play doubles is equally shocking for her. And that she hates to be a liability while playing the doubles game.

“I really don’t want to disappoint the person I’m playing with, because whenever I play doubles I always say, ‘Sorry’. I’m going to try not to be a liability,” she added.

When asked who she is going to partner with, she said that she won’t mind if that person himself reveals it, but for now, she will leave it to people to guess.

Since she dropped the bombshell about playing doubles, fans have begun speculating about who her partner is.

Naomi’s struggle on clay continues

The Japanese tennis star has a history of struggling in clay court events. Osaka is yet to reach a final in her career on clay. She has seven career hard-court titles and won four grand slams. Two each at the Australian Open and US Open. But she has never lifted a clay-court trophy. Her best result at the French Open is the third round. Now, the shocking straight-set loss in Madrid open has added up to her misery.
