Rising Canadian star Leylah Fernandez recently battled past World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals of the US Open 2021. The final scoreline of the match was 7(7)-6(3), 4-6, 6-4. With victories over three out of the top-5 WTA players on tour, she has successfully reached the finals of the Grand Slam.

Many tennis legends and renowned stars are extending their congratulations to Leylah Fernandez after her brilliant on-going run at the US Open 2021. One of them who recently joined the list is the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. He wrote a special message for the 19-year-old on Twitter after her excellent performance against Sabalenka.

Interestingly, even Trudeau watched the match between Fernandez and Sabalenka at the US Open 2021. He even posted a picture of himself where he seems really happy after the triumph of the 19-year-old star player.

“I just want to say congratulations, Leylah Fernandez and good luck in the final!” added the Canadian Prime Minister.
Leylah Fernandez will now face the United Kingdom’s Emma Raducanu in the finals of the US Open 2021. Intriguingly, Raducanu is the first qualifier to reach the finals of any Grand Slam in the Open Era and is yet to lose a set at the major. Will she be able to lift her maiden Grand Slam title in New York this year and make her nation proud?
