Iga Swiatek, the young blood from Poland who harbors great potential, isn’t happy with the current arrangement at the US Open. She has openly denounced the changes the Grand Slam has brought forth. Swiatek has had a splendid year, winning the French Open and going on a record 37-match winning streak.

Though she recently faced a serious dip in her form and is willing to level it with the US Open. But the latest amendment made in the weight of balls for the majors might affect her game heavily. Therefore, the hard hitter urged the organizer to change the ‘horrible’ balls. However, according to John McEnroe, she should rather modify her style.

McEnroe’s advice for Iga Swiatek

The 7-time Grand Slam champion, John McEnroe, recently gave his thoughts concerning the issue of women’s ball being lighter than men’s and Swiatek’s frustration. He said, “Maybe that’s just letting out some nerves. Maybe there’s some truth to that, maybe the balls are a little bit lighter. Maybe she doesn’t like that.”

“But whatever it is, she’s got to come to grips with it because she’s still obviously one of the favourites, or the favourite,” the four-time US Open champion added.

Thereafter, he added, “She’s an incredible athlete and I believe that she’ll figure it out and she’ll win majors. I believe she’ll win some on a faster hard court.” The world no.1, after claiming five consecutive WTA titles, experienced a steep fall in her performances in recent weeks.

After a quarterfinals’ dismissal in her home WTA 250 event, she gave a subpar performance in the WTA 1000 events that lead to the US Open.

The 21-year-old took a second round exit in both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters. The Brazilian professional and eventual runner-up Beatriz Haddad Maia took her down in Toronto and in Cincinnati the American Madison Keys outclassed her in straight sets.

Swiatek will face the Italian star Jasmine Paolini in the first round of the US Open.
