However, she couldn’t overcome the challenge of defeating Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round, which proved to be the last match of her professional tennis career. Recently, Eugenie Bouchard praised Tomljanovic for managing the situation well after defeating Serena.

The former Wimbledon finalist went on to say, “I think how she handled the whole Serena situation like I thought it was really like so gracious and humble and like I think a lot of people became fans of her because of that.”

Tomljanovic showed tremendous sportsmanship as she stood near her seat after shaking hands with Serena to allow the American legend to take the center stage in her last match. Fans were in love with the Aussie’s kind gesture after the match.

The 28-year-old is participating in just her third tournament on her comeback. Yesterday, she defeated India’s Karman Thandi in straight sets to move into the quarterfinals of the tournament. In the last eight, she will take on the winner of the match between Nadia Podoroska and Tatjana Maria.

Bouchard is also playing in doubles at the Chennai Open. Partnering with Yanina Wickmayer, the duo has reached the last eight of the tournament.
