It’s the 8th day of the French Open 2021 and fans witnessed a big upset today. World No.6 Elina Svitolina got knocked out of the French Open 2021 as she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 3-6, 2-6.

With this, Elina Svitolina became the seventh player of the top 10 WTA players who got eliminated from the French Open 2021 before even reaching the pre-quarters of the tournament.

Set-1: Barbora Krejcikova shocks Elina Svitolina

Krejcikova began the set on a high as she broke in the very first set. She didn’t lose her momentum and won the next game as well to establish an early 2-0 lead over Svitolina. However, the Ukrainian player gave her firm response after leveling the scoreline at 2-2 after breaking in the fourth game.

The scoreline soon reached 3-3 as both the players won on their respective serves. But, what happened after this shocked everyone. Krejcikova broke yet again to take her lead to 4-3. After this, she saved four break-points and won the 8th game that witnessed a total number of 13 deuces.

Krejcikova carried forward her momentum and broke for the third time in the set. As a result, she won the set 6-3 in 59 minutes.

Set-2: Game, Set, Match for Barbora Krejcikova

Krejcikova began the set in style again as she won the first game. Even though World No.6 Svitolina managed to earn a break-point, she couldn’t capitalize on it. After this, the Czech player won his fifth consecutive game as she broke yet again in the second set.

Svitolina tried to fight back and she broke in the following game to reduce the lead to 2-1. However, Krejcikova broke back and was now leading 3-1 at the end of the fourth game. She didn’t ease her grip on the match this time and won the next game to take her lead to 4-1.

Even though Krejcikova saved two break-points in the sixth game, she wasn’t able to save the third one and therefore, lost the game to Svitolina. The scoreline at this time was 4-2 in Krejcikova’s favor.

Perhaps, it was too late for Svitolina as Krejcikova won the subsequent game as well to take her lead to 5-2. She was now just one game away from entering into the pre-quarters of the French Open 2021.  She didn’t waste much time, broke in the next game, conquered the set 6-2, and thus, won the match.
