Recently, the WNBA invited her to the playoffs and an overwhelmed King decided to share her experience.

Billie Jean King shares her happiness

The WTA’s founder, after attending the match between New York Liberty and Chicago Sky, took to Twitter to express herself. She wrote, Such an honor to be given a New York Liberty jersey to commemorate the 50th anniversary of #TitleIX, and to spend some time tonight with Clara Wu, co-owner of the NY Liberty.”

King loves traveling around and taking part in events such as the recent playoffs. After all, she herself was an athlete. Further, she is a regular at major events in tennis. The veteran takes special interest when the future generation is at the court. For example, she was thrilled to watch the 18-year-old Coco Gauff lock horns with WTA no.1 Iga Swiatek in the French Open finals.

Also, the American flew to London just to witness the finals battle of the Wimbledon championships between the 21 times Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios.

A brief look at King’s life

The 39 majors titles champion started playing at the time when women’s tennis was just an addition to men’s tennis having no identity of its own. Therefore, she decided to change the system and norms. Though it wasn’t an easy feat. She had to prove herself and her gender’s worth at every point. In fact, she had to indulge in events such as the Battle of sexes.

After years of struggling for sponsors and audience approval, King slowly brought WTA to existence. Though amidst all this, she was also fighting against the narrow-minded and un-accepting society who discarded her for getting an abortion and coming out as a lesbian.
