Back in 2017, Serena was set to play in the Australian Open. However, the 40-year-old was not feeling great and was low on energy. The reason turned out to be pregnancy. While Serena could have pulled out of the tournament, she chose to stay and continue. However, there’s an interesting story behind Serena revealing her pregnancy to her husband, Alexis Ohanian. Here’s what Serena revealed later.
How Serena revealed her pregnancy to Alexis Ohanian
Serena revealed the baby was unplanned, and she got to know about it at the start of the Australian Open 2017. “When I found out I was pregnant two days before the 2017 Australian Open, my body had already switched allegiances. Its purpose, as far as it was concerned, was to grow and nurture this baby that had seemingly materialized, unplanned,” she said.
Further, the former world number 1 revealed the way she informed Ohanian about the pregnancy. “Being pregnant wasn’t something I could tell Alexis over the phone; I told him to fly out to Melbourne right away. When he got here, I handed him a paper bag filled with six positive pregnancy tests I had taken all in one afternoon.”
Serena played the 2017 Australian Open in that condition and defeated her sister, Venus Williams, in the final to lift her 23rd Grand Slam. This is one of many reasons Serena is an inspiration to the future generation.
Margaret Court slams Serena Williams
Australian tennis legend, Margaret Court, was not happy with Serena Williams’ words after her last match. Notably, the 40-year-old fell one title short of equalling the record of Margaret Court (24 Grand Slam). While Serena accepted she had Court’s record in her mind, she felt all that came in the Open Era. Slamming the American for her comments, the Aussie said she admires Serena as a player. However, she doesn’t admire her.
