Belinda Bencic turned pro in 2012. With her all-court aggressive style intact, the Swiss have been climbing the ladder of success since then. Her first career title came three years after turning pro at the 2015 Eastbourne Open. It was followed by a title win at the 2015 Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Belinda’s performance at the Australian Open and the Roland Garros

Belinda has appeared a total of 9 times in the opening slam of the year. She first played at the Australian Open in 2014. Entering the main draw as a qualifier, she suffered a second-round loss to the then World No. 4 Na Li.
Giving 2015 a miss, she made a comeback in 2016, reaching the fourth round. However, the run was short-lived. The 2017 and 2018 seasons saw Belinda suffer first and second-round exits respectively. From 2019 to 2021, the 25-year-old reached the 3rd round in all 3 appearances.
She last played at the 2022 Australian Open, suffering a second-round exit.

Entering the clay, the Swiss grace has played the Roland Garros 5 times till now. She first played on the red surface of Paris in 2014, suffering a first-round loss. Not getting any better, she further suffered a second-round loss in 2015.

Taking a break after multiple losses, Belina re-entered the French Open in 2018. Hoping to get a better result, she started her tournament campaign with a first-round win. However, not being able to withstand the feel of the red surface, Belinda was outplayed in the second round.

Playing in 2019, she went ahead, reaching the third round. However, not being able to maintain her play, she again suffered a second-round exit in 2021.

Belinda Bencic at Wimbledon and US Open

Belinda Bencic has played Wimbledon 6 times in her career. She first played on the grass courts of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 2014, reaching the third round. In the subsequent year, she showed a slight improvement, reaching the 4th round.

Suffering an injury, Belinda was forced to retire in the second round of the 2016 edition. She further gave a miss to the 2017 edition. However, after missing out on the tournament last year, she made a comeback, again reaching the fourth round in 2018.

Reaching the third round in 2019, Belinda entered the 2021 Wimbledon as the 9th seed. However, failing to use it as an advantage, she suffered an opening-round defeat to the then World No. 102 Kaja Juvan.

The US Open has been one of the favorite tournaments for Belinda. She first played at the Flushing Meadows in 2014, reaching the quarterfinals. The Swiss player got a special mention for this performance of hers. As, on her road to the quarterfinals, she beat the top players- Angelique Kerber and Jelena Jankovic.
In 2015-2016, she suffered third-round exits. It went a step worse in 2018 when she suffered a first-round loss. In 2019, Belinda had her best result. Having a solid game in place, she reached the semifinals. However, what took the limelight was her fourth-round match. In the fourth round, she beat the then World No. 1 Naomi Osaka.
She last played the US Open in 2021, reaching the quarterfinals. On her way to the quarterfinals, she beat the then World No. 7 Iga Swiatek.

The final verdict

Belinda Bencic has a total of 5 tour titles to her name. However, going down the history line, she is yet to win a major. Her best major performance to date is the 2019 US Open where she reached the semifinals.
