‘Have Given Up on Dating..’- When Serena Williams Vowed to Not Get Romantically Involved After a Major Heart-Break

American tennis star, Serena Williams has achieved almost everything on the court. The 40-year-old has a successful life out of the court as well. The former world number one is one of the richest tennis stars, with a diverse investment portfolio.

Further, talking about her personal life, the legendary tennis player is enjoying her married life with her husband Alexis Ohanian, and four-year-old daughter, Olympia.

However, long before meeting Ohanian, Serena had some tough relationships, and she had given up on dating. Here’s recalling what Serena said about her dating future in 2012.

When Serena gave up on dating

Back in 2012, at the peak of her game, Serena Williams had given up on dating. Talking about the same she said that the failures in relationships have made her take this decision. “I have given up on dating,” the 23-time grand slam champion declared. “It just hasn’t worked out well for me.”

“I’m a really emotional person, I give my all and everything. I do make mistakes — like every human does — but the last relationship just was too much of a heartbreak for me. I just can’t go through that anymore. It was hard.”

Further, Serena added she will date no one until she is 40. “I just have to remove myself from that atmosphere for about the next decade or so,” Serena added. “I can’t get involved.”

However, the future had different plans for the tennis star. She met the love of her life and married him well before turning 40.

Ahead of her return to the American hard court swing, Serena Williams was spotted practicing with sister Venus Williams. Notably, the two were practicing in Washington at the Citi Open.

While Venus made a singles comeback there, Serena will start the Season with the National Bank Open in Toronto. Further, the 40-year-old will also feature in the Cincinnati Masters tournament.
