“Have Nowhere To Go’ – Ukrainian Tennis Player Reveals ‘Nightmare Story’ Amid the On-Going Conflict

The current geopolitical situation in west Europe is an extremely volatile one. With scores of people having already left their homes and moved to countries, it might not even be possible for residents of Ukrainian cities to get back to their homes.

The implications are clearly visible on the Ukrainian tennis players in both the ATP and the WTA circuits. Even though many players have sent in their messages of support or taken action to aid humanitarian efforts in the country, the players who are based out of Ukraine are facing new challenges.

Lesia Tsurenko, a former top-30 player, highlighted a unique problem that she is having to face as a result of the current situation in Ukraine.

Lesia Tsurenko faces a new challenge

Life for Ukrainian players have truly been very tough. Players like Elina Svitolina have promised to redistribute her earnings to aid the military and humanitarian efforts back home. But, Tsurenko tweeted about a new kind of problem, that she, a player based out of Kyiv is having to face.

After the worst month of my life with constant headache, panic attacks and guilt over the war in Ukraine, I face a new challenge… as a player based in Kyiv, I have nowhere to go… Now every Ukrainian has his own nightmare story…Where should I go?” she tweeted.

Kyiv is the capital city of Ukraine and has been under attack for quite some time now. Tsurenko was in the US when it all began.  She took part in both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open, qualifying in the main draw for the latter.

But, now that the US hard court swing is over for her, she is facing the challenge of going back home. After losing to Putintseva from Kazakhstan at Miami, Tsurenko is supposed to participate at the Challenger event in Marbella next but given the current circumstances, she will not be able to go back to her hometown of Kyiv anytime soon.
