The Polish player was sending shots like lightning bolts across the court to defend her French Open title. On the other side, Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia was putting up a fight to add to the Brazilian Grand Slam hope.

Consequently, the cheers from both Polish and Brazilian fans were equally competitive. So much so that the two players did not know for whom the crowd was cheering.

Swiatek confessed during the post-match interview, “Honestly, I don’t know what you guys were shouting for the whole match. It was “Iga”. It was “Bia”. I heard it differently every time.”

Swiatek assumed things got more serious than expected, as she said, “I guess there was a bit of a fight between Polish & Brazilian fans.”

She stated, “Sometimes I think I was confused because I was listening… ‘Bia’ or ‘Iga.’ I didn’t know if it was ‘Biga’.” Nonetheless, being a soccer-dominated nation, cheering to the heart’s content is Brazilians’ forte. Complementing that, Maia said, “Brazilians are loud,” with a smile.
