Today, at the French Open final, we saw one of the most dominant performances from the World No.1 Iga Swiatek. She convincingly beat the American teenager Coco Gauff in the final to lift the Suzanne-Lenglen cup. Incidentally, this was Swiatek’s second Grand Slam title, and both of those titles came in Paris.

It’s worth noting that both players were on the verge of creating a record at the French Open. However, it seems like the Polish sensation had more firepower to write her name in the history books.

Iga Swiatek wins the French Open 2022
During the first set, we saw the Pole break the American teenager early to take the lead. Then, she went 4-0 up after breaking Gauff‘s serve for the second time. In the end, she won the first set by at a canter, 6-1.

In the second set, Gauff broke Swiatek early to shock the reigning world number 1. Then the American backed it up with a service hold. However, the Pole broke Gauff in the 4th game to make the score 2-2 in the second set. Then, she broke her serve again to get a resounding lead in the second set. In the end, she won the match 6-1 6-3 after just 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Swiatek matches Venus Williams’ record
After winning her semi-final match against Daria Kasatkina, Swiatek matched Serena Williams‘ 34-match unbeaten run. In 2013, Serena Williams created this record, which ended in Wimbledon. Now, after today’s win, Swiatek matched Venus‘ record of a 35-match back-to-back win.

It’s worth mentioning that this is the longest winning streak since 2000 and the 3rd longest win streak since 1990. Along with this record, she has also become the 9th woman in the open era to win multiple Roland Garros titles.

Apart from that, the 20-year-old Polish player-created several other records as well. With this win, she became the youngest player to win more than one Grand Slam title since Maria Sharapova in 2006. Also, she is the fifth no.1 seed to win the French Open in 25 years.
Now, Wimbledon will be her next destination. And the way she is playing right now, it’s practically impossible to stop her.
