Haddad Maia was in great form coming into the match. She also had a 2-0 winning head-to-head against Elena Rybakina and this could’ve been a nail-biting encounter if not for the injury. The gracious defending champion also hoped for a speedy recovery for the Brazilian in her post-match interview.

Those were really generous words from Rybakina for her injured opponent. It looked like a bad injury and just at the worst possible time for Haddad Maia. A speedy recovery would be great for the Brazilian and WTA as well as the US Open is not far away.
