Chris Evert, the American tennis veteran, is one of those players who brought women’s tennis to light. Her rivalry with the Czech-American Martina Navratilova still stands tall as one of the best in the books of tennis. Despite records, her immense contribution to the tennis has been the highlight of her career.
Keeping in mind Evert’s contribution to the game and the young talents she inspired through her career, ESPN decided to honor her in their own way.

ESPN’s tribute to Chris Evert
The 18 times Grand Slam champion always raised her voice when the matter is about unbiased and equal opportunity. Especially for the children. However, Evert isn’t just a speaker, she has put in efforts to make reality what she professes. She runs Evert Academy to help kids excel not only in tennis but also in education. About which the former World No.1 said, “I believe that every child deserves this. Giving kids life skills, I think that’s what I am lost proud of. It’s really opened up their life to a new level.”

Thereafter she added, “I want to talk to the kids about pressure and about winning and about humility and about how lucky they are to find a sport that they love. It’s not only about the tennis, it’s also about the education. We are just trying to help their dreams come true.” Because of such inspiring and empowering intentions, ESPN chose her for this year’s Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award.

Each year under the 67-year-old’s leadership, the foundation contributes around $450,000 to provide individual players grand and educational support through their flagship program, the national junior tennis, and learning network.

Chris Evert ruled the courts during her playing days. She has 157 singles and 32 doubles career titles under her name, and she has held the crown of World no.1 for a record 260 weeks. Further, Evert made up to the finals of a total of 34 majors and claimed at least one Grand Slam for a streak of 13 years.
The American also holds the record of 100 victories in a Grand Slam. She has won over 100 matches on the hard courts of the US Open. Apart from her, only Serena Williams, the 23 times Grand Slam champion, has conquered the tournament in that way.

Speaking of her current endeavor, Evert uses her knowledge and understanding of the game to act as the analyst and broadcaster for ESPN. She has been working with the channel since 2011.
