The WTA carefully considered a variety of competitive bids in close conjunction with the WTA Players’ Council. Aside from Cancun, four other cities vied for the right to host the WTA Finals. But the bid from the organizers in Cancun was ultimately chosen above other contenders such as Riyadh, Ostrava, Cluj Napoca, and Washington DC.
