American sister duo Venus and Serena Williams are two of the best tennis players of all time. While Serena recently ended her 27-year-long career, Venus is yet to make any such announcement. Being the older one, Venus was the first to make it big in tennis. Known for her game from a very young age, Venus was getting contacted by agents at the young age of 10.

Richard Williams narrated a story from the time when boxing promoter Don King visited them in Compton.

When Don King met the Williams family

Back in the time when both Serena and Venus were yet to make their tour debut, their game attracted many eyeballs. A 10-year-old Venus Williams was already making a name for herself. Meanwhile, famous boxing promoter Don King paid a visit to the Williams family. He took them all to the Los Angeles Soul-food restaurant for lunch.

Over lunch, the Williams family decided that King will be the tour guide for Venus when she goes to New York to catch up with the end of the US Open. When a reporter asked Richard Williams if it was safe leaving his daughter with King, Richard gave a sarcastic reply. “People should be more concerned with what we’re trying to get from Mr. King. He’s the one with the millions,” Richard said.

It didn’t take Venus much longer after that to make her debut and rule the world. Later, Serena also followed her and the rest is history.

Will Venus join Serena Williams in her retirement?

As Serena Williams bid an emotional farewell to her tennis career, there are speculations about the retirement of Venus as well. Notably, the 42-year-old has played only four matches and was unable to win any of them. Her most recent loss came in the US Open, where she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck in her first-round match.

Speaking about the loss on her YouTube channel, the 42-year-old said that she had problems adjusting to the new types of equipment. Further, she called it her first stem and there will be the next step.
