Coco Gauff, the American rising star, earlier at the French Open, became the youngest player to make it to a Grand Slam final since 2004. However, prior to her incredible run in Paris, she garnered a considerable amount of fame after defeating the seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams at Wimbledon.

However, with recognition comes the burden of living up to the exceptions. Recently, Gauff suffered major backlash because she couldn’t execute a run into the latter stages of Wimbledon.

Coco Gauff is ready for the hard-court season

The American is all set to heal her wounds from her disappointing run in the grass-court major. She is gearing up for the final Grand Slam event of the year, the US Open. While speaking in a recent interview, she said, “the goal is hopefully to hold up the US Open trophy. That’s kind of the main goal. The only goal, really. That’s really the goal every year.”

Thereafter, Gauff clarified, “Yes, winning the other tournaments is great. Don’t get me wrong. But I think that there would be nothing more satisfying than that.”

Further, Gauff recently played exhibition matches at Atlanta Open. Originally she was supposed to lock horns with the 19-year-old 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, but due to her injury, she squared off with compatriot and Atlanta resident, Taylor Townsend.

In the first two matches of the ATP exhibition event, Gauff took down Townsend and then clashed with the 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin on the final day, winning 6-1 6-2.

After beating the heat in Miami and reaching the round of 16, the World No.11 started her clay-court season. Although her performance in the initial tournaments was underwhelming, she stunned the tennis world by reaching the final of Roland Garros.

In the red dirt of the French Open, the teenager got the better of every opponent in straight sets and challenged the World No.1 Iga Swiatek for the title. Though she failed to out-muscle the Pole’s monstrous form, she became only the second teenager after Maria Sharapova, to reach a Grand Slam final. Thereafter, Gauff made a smooth shift to the fastest surface and executed a semifinal run in Berlin.

Now, she is gearing up for the US Open with the hope of replicating the form that showed in Paris. Can she make it to the latter stages of the upcoming Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows?
