The biopic ‘King Richard’ grabbed many headlines at the Oscars after actor Will Smith won the best actor award. Smith won that award after portraying Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams. Many people praised the movie for its accurate portrayal of the story.
The father-daughter bond between Richard and the Williams Sisters touched many hearts. On the red carpet at the Oscars ceremony, Serena talked about the fathers and especially the black fathers.

Both Serena and Venus were at the Oscars to support their film ‘King Richard,’ and to support Will Smith, the lead actor. During that event, an interviewer asked him about black fatherhood in general. In reply, Serena said, “Fatherhood, especially black fatherhood… It also reaches on the notes that you don’t get to see. You get to see a lot of black fathers portrayed in a different light, and it’s like that’s not always the narrative.”
“Yeah, it happens, but it happens there in every race, but you know it was really good to see a different portrayal of a black father.”

When the interviewer said about being perfect and horrible at the same time, the tennis player, said, “I totally agree and I love that you said that and it’s so true because that’s how it’s always been portrayed and… that’s not the case in any race. So, it’s like everyone has, you know, ups and downs but for a reason, as black fathers have always been portrayed differently, African-Americans in particular.”
She also added that she was glad that everyone can just enjoy the movie and also be motivated by it. According to her, the movie crosses all races and it gives everyone hope and motivation.
Serena had an eventful night at the Oscars
On her Instagram, Serena posted some beautiful pictures from the Oscars event. The event also saw an unbelievable incident when Will Smith slapped the host, Chris Rock. Despite that, Smith won the Oscar for the best actor, and both Serena and Venus both looked quite happy.

Serena Williams seems to be enjoying her time away from tennis right now. She hasn’t competed since Wimbledon last year, where she had to retire midway through the first set because of an injury. The 23-time singles Grand Slam winner would be hoping to return to the circuit soon and showcase her skills once again.
